After reading some of the other blogs about how and when to send a written thank you, I thought we might all reflect on the following quote from A.J. Cronin,
the Scottish novelist and writer of non-fiction:

Gratitude is something of which none of us can give too much. For on the smiles, the thanks we give, our little gestures of appreciation, our neighbors build up their philosophy of life.

Too often, we see the written thank you as an obligation. We think that others expect us to say thank you, and we need to respond to these expectations. Since it seems to be more and more difficult to see our friends, family, and neighbors in person, we must look at other choices. I keep my personalized thank you cards in their box at my desk for exactly this reason. When I want to convey a thank you to a friend, colleague, or family member, I enjoy the act of putting pen to paper and composing the written thank you.

For me, putting the stamp on the envelope and “posting” the letter is so satisfying. For the recipient, as Mr. Cronin says, it might become a small memory and a part of their life.

Along with the huge craze for eco-friendly houses and cars, eco friendly stationery is making a huge hit on the stationery scene. Anyone who is environmentally conscience will insist on environmentally friendly stationery because it is much better for our planet.

The myth that eco-friendly stationery must be brown, plain and boring is false. That is no longer true since eco-friendly stationery has become so popular. You can choose from many different colors, styles and designs. You can choose to have your initials or your full name embossed on the paper and you can choose to have whatever color paper you want. The paper will still be more than fifty percent recycled while other recycled paper can be as little as ten percent recycled.

Don’t be fooled by companies that promise eco friendly stationery, but don’t have high standards for what constitutes as eco friendly. You should always be conscience of exactly how much of the paper was truly constructed from recycled materials and how much was made from scratch. Some companies are getting away with providing recycled paper that doesn’t have much recycled content at all in it because there is no national standard for what eco friendly means.

Remember to always ask the company about their standards as to what constitutes eco friendly and decide for yourself if that meets your own standards of what is friendly towards the earth and what is not. Remember that you are no longer constricted to bland and boring colors and designs. Your recycled stationery can be just as beautiful as any other stationery that is available, but it is made from more than fifty percent recycled materials.
